About Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan

Kulapati K.M. Munshi founded the Bhavan on Monday, November 7, 1938. It was the beginning of an 'Adventure in Faith'. A faith in India's Past, Present and Future. The founding of Bhavan was based on the preservation and propagation of Bharatiya Sanskriti (Indian culture) and Sanskrit, the mother of languages, the Akshaya Patra: the inexhaustible reservoir. This unpretentious endeavour was backed by Kulapati Munshi's amazing pragmatism. Over the years from being a modest indological research institution, the Bhavan has steadily grown into a comprehensive, co-operative, apolitical, national movement with an international outlook. It seeks to inculcate a value-based life. The promotion of ethical and spiritual values in everything that it does.

From this beginning arose the strength of a pan - Indian intellectual, cultural and educational movement with emerged as the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. Today its 119 Kendras (Centres) in India, 8 abroad and 367 constituent institutions stand as a tribute to the visionary zeal of one man who knew how to translate his dream into reality. Its dedicated services have brought to it recognition as an “Educational Institution of National Eminence” and the “International Gandhi Peace Prize

Bhavan pioneering efforts in the field of education focus particularly on building a bridge between the current education system and what society actually needs, keeping in steps with the objectives envisioned by Dr. Munshi. Its various academic and professional courses are also tailored to suit the evolving requirements of the times, while ensuring that there is always an undercurrent relating to value-based education and the cultural heritage of Bharat. Every generation that passes through the portals of the Bhavan Carries the breeze of yesterday into the winds of tomorrow.

With its belief in the continuous enrichment of individuals and groups through education, the Bhavan provides avenues for this to all those desirous of updating their knowledge and professional skills. Its doors open to children, students, graduates, postgraduate’s executives, working people, home-maker and senior citizens with opportunities to develop themselves and their horizons.
